During Data Collection, if you notice that your heat penetration or temperature distribution data file has a "gap" in the time, it is probably caused by the Windows Power Settings on the computer, which puts teh computer into "Sleep Mode" after a certain amount of time with no activity.
Here is an example of a Heat Penetration Data File with a gap in the time. To further see this example, the "Show Clock Time" option was selected.
In this example, the "Scan Number" did not change (#128, then 129), but the Time/Clock-Time shows a gap of 04:15 (4 minutes & 15 seconds).
You may not noticed this on the time/temperature grid, but when you plot the data, you will see the gap as shown in this example...
This "Gap In Time" happens when the computer goes into Sleep Mode during the data collection test.
Microsoft Windows has a power-saving feature that will automatically put the computer into "sleep mode" after a certain amount of time where the computer senses no activity. When the computer goes into Sleep Mode, CALSoft pauses data collection (in the example above, this was after scan #128). Then, when the computer wakes up from Sleep Mode, CALSoft resumes data collection as the next scan (in the example above, this was at scan #129). But the TIME is recorded as the actual time when the computer wakes up from Sleep Mode. This results in a Time-Gap within the data file.
To keep this from happening, you should set the Sleep Mode to NEVER....
To do this in Windows..
- Click the Windows Start Button
- Choose SETTINGS (Gear Icon)
- Choose SYSTEM
- Choose Power & Sleep
- Set the SLEEP modes to NEVER.
Once the Sleep Mode is set to NEVER, CALSoft will not have an issue with Gaps in Time during data collection.
