This article is for attendees of our Thermal Processing Course who need a temporary version of CALSoft for the course. Before you do anything, please know this..
- CALSoft will only load on a Windows computer (not on Apple computers).
- Your computer MUST be connected to the internet when installing/activating the software
- You must have an Activation Code to complete this installation. This was emailed to you
- You must have a Sample CALSoft file (file ending in .chp). This was emailed to you.
- We STRONLY RECOMMEND you use the default location for installing CALSoft. If a different location is chosen during the installation, the user must be assigned the proper permissions to that folder in order for CALSoft to work properly. Failure to do this will prevent the software from running properly! See this article for more information… https://calsoftsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037501172-Assigning-User-Appropriate-Permissions-During-Installation
- Some companies have very strict network security and this prevents CALSoft from properly installing/activating. If you encounter a problem with this, you can choose the “secure installation” option during the install. If you still have problems with internet security/connectivity, contact us at support@tcal.com.
To Install and Activate CALSoft…
1. Go to the CALSoft download page of our website .. https://tcal.com/download-calsoft
2. Click the DOWNLOAD CALSOFT After the file is downloaded, choose “RUN”. Follow the instructions on the screen.
3. After installation is complete, you will be asked to input your Activation Code. A Temporary Use Activation Code for CALSoft 6 was provided to when you in a separate email. You may copy and paste the code into the CALSoft Activation form to eliminate the need to type the code.
4. Once completed, the CALSoft 6 software will open and will look like this…
The final steps are to Test Your CALSoft Software…
TEST 1- Open a CALSoft File: To test and ensure your CALSoft works properly, we have emailed you a sample CALSoft Heat Penetration file. Please follow these instructions to make sure CALSoft is installed and running properly on your computer:
- After you install CALSoft using the instructions above, close down CALSoft so it is not running. To close CALSoft click the X in the top-left part of the main screen.
- Then double-click on the sample file attached to the email we sent you (the file ending in “chp” file extension).
- You may see a message that says the file is from a “temporary location” and that CALSoft is renaming the file. Click OK to continue.
- This should launch CALSoft 6 and open the file.
** If this gives you an error, you may want to save the CHP file from the email to a location (such as your desktop) and then launch CALSoft, go to the Heat Penetration section, chose “open”, and then find the file where you saved it. - You will see the Heat Penetration File” which looks like this (See image below). If you see this, your CALSoft is properly installed and working.
- You can now close CALSoft by clicking on the X in the top-right of the page.
NOTE That if you get an error that CALSoft cannot open the file, or that access is denied, you may not have permissions to the folder where CALSoft has been installed. See this article for more information...

TEST 2- Access To The ProCAL Database: After successfully testing that you can open the sample file above, you also need to test and make sure you have access to the ProCAL database. Please follow these instructions to make sure CALSoft has installed the ProCAL database in the proper location on your computer and you have access to it::
1. Launch CALSoft if it is not already running.
2. Click the Process Calculation button to access the Process Calculation section...
3. In the Process Calculation section, click NEW to open a new process calculation...
4. This should set up a new Process Calculation project (ProCAL record) and display the Process Calculation screen (below).
NOTE: If you get this error below, it means the ProCAL database is not located in the folder where CALSoft thinks it is.
If you get this error, see this article for more information...

Please make sure to run BOTH tests mentioned above before you leave for our course. If either of these two items do not work properly, you will need to correct the issue BEFORE the course, or you will not have access to CALSoft for the workshops.
*** If you have any other problems during installation or activation, please feel free to contact our CALSoft support group at support@tcal.com and we will help you****
