NOTE: these instructions are for moving CALSoft 6 from one computer to another. If you are interested in how to merge/convert your old CALSoft 5 ProCAL5.mdb into the new CALSoft 6 ProCAL database, please see this article (click here).
The CALSoft 6 ProCAL database stores any projects you created using Process Calculation, CUT/Vent Establishment, or Deviation Evaluation. When you add a new record to the ProCAL database, it chooses the next available number in the database as the ProCAL record number. See this article for more detailed information on the ProCAL Database (Directory).
The following are the steps to backup and/or move this database to another computer:
STEP 1: BACKUP/COPY the ProCAL.mdb file from your old computer:
- The ProCAL database for CALSoft 6 is a file called "ProCAL.mdb".
- The file is stored by default (during the initial installation of CALSoft 6) in your CALSoft 6 "Data" directory/folder.
- To access that directory, in Windows File Explorer, go to the Documents folder on your computer (C:\Users\[user name]\Documents) and then go to the folder "CALSoft6." Next, open the "Data" folder.
NOTE: You may have stored your ProCAL database in a different location on your computer; if this is the case, click START and search by typing "ProCAL.mdb" and then you can see/navigate to the location of the file. - Look for the ProCAL.mdb file in that folder and backup/copy the file.
STEP 2: MOVE the ProCAL.mdb file to your new computer:
- When you first install CALSoft on your new computer, it will create a new ProCAL.mdb file and install it in the CALSoft 6 "Data" folder, or the location where the other CALSoft program files are installed. See Step 1, item 3 above for finding the location of the ProCAL.mdb file.
- This file is a new, empty database file.
- Paste your old ProCAL.mdb file (see Step 1 above about how to copy that file) onto your NEW computer in this same directory where CALSoft 6 empty ProCAL.mdb file is stored.
- This will overwrite the new, empty ProCAL.mdb file with your old ProCAL.mdb file.
STEP 3: Confirm that CALSoft is pointing to the correct location where the ProCAL.mdb file is located:
- Open CALSoft.
- Click on the Preferences (Gear) Icon in the top right corner of the main dashboard and click "Preferences."
- On the CALSoft Setup tab in the Preferences window, make sure the "Default ProCAL Directory" is set to the location where you put the ProCAL.mdb file in Step 2 above.
- Close the Preferences window, and then go to the "Process Calculation" section f CALSoft and click "OPEN" CALSoft should access your old ProCAL.mdb database.
When you use CALSoft on your new computer, it should now access your "old" ProCAL database and the next available ProCAL # will be assigned to the next record.
